Knitting Classes: Suitable for all Ages

Knitting Classes: Suitable for all Ages

There is something really special about being able to make your own clothes.  Granted, I have never knitted anything too extravagant, but even hand knitting a scarf  is pretty exciting, especially when you receive compliments on it.  When I was in high school, we were forced to knit a scarf in my German class.  I ended up loving the assignment and by the end of the semester I had knitted enough scarves for my entire extended family.  Needless to say it is a really enjoyable hobby plus it is one you can even do with your Nanna on a lazy day.  If you have the slightest bit of interest, take a class, possibly with a friend or one of your kids, and get excited about a new hobby!  Here are some places I found that looked great for learning the basics.

Tapestry Craft
This sounds like a great way to quickly learn the basics of knitting for a reasonable price.  It’s only $35 for 3 hours and it’s located right in downtown Sydney.   Once you get the basics, then you can attend more advanced classes to really spice up your design.

Turramurra Drapery
This store has a young, artsy feel that encourages all ages to take up the lasting tradition of needle work.  They offer knitting, embroidery, and crocheting class during the weekdays.  Sewing and knitting excite and feed a child’s curiosity for new things and learning.  Get your children involved in this new craft – it will stick with them forever and give them something to do in front of the television.

There are also a number of various knitting groups and clubs that meet regularly throughout the week.  Some are free, others charge a small fee, but all sound friendly and open to new people ready to learn and have a chat over knitting.

Once you are a pro, you can get involved with the community by joining to the 702 ABC Sydney Knit In on July 28th.  You simply contribute by knitting squares or donating wool to help the Wrap With Love non-profit organisation.  The organisation arranges for volunteers to sew the squares into wraps that are sent to villages worldwide to keep people warm throughout the cold months.
