Winter Family Fun – Some Ideas and Activities

The time has now come to put away the thongs and shorts and pull out the heavy jumpers and boots. Winter is on its way. But winter is not a reason to become a social hermit. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to partake in with your family. Here are some ideas to inspire a winter full of fun and activity.

Is your family into craft?  This site offers many print-out coloring-in pages and crafts for your young ones. Spend an afternoon embracing your artistic side or make an entire day of it. Hot chocolate and  movies are a perfect accompaniment for a craft day. I remember when I was younger, some of the best memories I have are of the many afternoons I spent just watching movies, eating popcorn and doing fun crafts at home.  Aside from the family arts and crafts and movie days, playing other indoors games kept me active. Just let your imagination take over.

Getting outdoors is easy, especially with younger children. If you live in a place where it doesn’t get too cold, this may be a great opportunity to play some footy or other ball sports. Other outdoor activities could be going to the Botanic Gardens.  If you are seeking more of an adventure this winter, especially for the other children, Australia offers several rock climbing opportunities. There is no reason to stay locked indoors all winter long when you can experience it all. However, if you and winter don’t get along, there are many indoor rock climbing gyms available as well.

This year, something new is coming to Sydney. People have realized that in winter, we all tend to hibernate. This June, all are invited to Sydney Winter Festival. This is an effort to get us out of hiding when the temperatures are not our friend.

There are plenty more offerings for this coming winter season. Even though the weather is not that great, keeping an open mind and seeing what’s out there will make the winter season not as bad.
