Winter Hair Styles

During the winter months, we tend to dress a little drabber and lack the creativity and freedom in style of the summer months. It’s the same with our hair — even if it’s not hidden under a scarf or hat, it somehow gets less attention at this time of year. But if you’re getting restless in your appearance, why not heat things up this winter with a spicy new hairstyle? Here’s a look at the hottest trends this year.

Colour
Rich, natural warm brunette tones are big this year. They will warmth to your overall style. Shades with red undertone add a spice to already natural brunettes. Auburn colour is also hot, especially with brunette undertones.

Gone are the days of the peroxide blondes (for now, anyway). Natural blonde tones with light brunette undertones are definitely in. Adding some highlights around the face will lighten your face, without looking overly dyed. Natural redhead colours are also big. The key word this year seems to be natural. Keep the highlights and lowlights in warm tones to add gorgeous depth to your hair.

The bob

This classic style is still huge this year, especially when paired with a fringe. Either a side-swept fringe or blunt version across your forehead will look fab, just make sure your cut accentuates the features of your face. If you aren’t keen on the fringe, a bob without one is still in. Spice it up with an angled cut to give it more of an edge.

This slightly longer variant of the classic short bob is the perfect choice for those wanting a change but aren’t keen on losing all their locks. The layered bob, as perfected by the likes of Heidi Klum, gives depth and character to the hair.

Became popular again in 2008 (although is is essentially a recreation of the old Audrey Hepburn look), this is a great look for those bold enough to take the plunge away from their bobs. For those with a petite frame, this style will definitely suit you. But think hard before attempting this extreme change. Your hair won’t be back anytime soon!

Long, sleek and straight
If you have long hair and are just looking to update your style without a dramatic cut, think about styling it a little differently. Pin-straight isn’t necessary, but a sleeker look will revamp your style. Cut in a few layers for body, and wear it straight for an edgy, elegant look.

longhair

Long and flowing
Add volume to long hair and wear it slightly tousled yet full of body. This simple look will complement a dress for any occasion. Adding a fringe to your layers may also update your long locks and add an edgy twist if you’re looking for a simple update.

Whichever winter look you decide on, be sure to consult your stylist to make sure you end up with the best cut for your face shape.
