Winter Party Ideas

Just because it feels like we have entered an arctic world out there these days does not give us any reason we can’t still live it up and enjoy our summer partying habits…just maybe not the ones out on the boat.  Winter months can be depressing when no one organizes parties anymore and everyone just trudges a long in their daily routine.  However, winter offers a perfect time to throw a themed party and renew some friendships.  Here are some things I thought would be fun to try.

• Hot Cocoa Party: Who doesn’t love a warm cup of homemade hot chocolate?  What’s even better, hot chocolate with a shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream, Kahlua, or brandy to really warm things up.  Offer guests an array of other mixings as well, like peppermint, whipped cream, and caramel all to be mixed with chocolate dipped mixing spoons.

• Chocolate Fondue Party: There are 1000s of recipes out there for fondue and chocolate just happens to be the most delicious and a favourite to all.  Round up your mates, send out some fun invites and do a little devouring.  Make sure you have all things to dip including fruit, biscuits, nuts, etc., and I promise this will become a tradition.

• Card Party: A favourite party of mine during the winter, and summer, months is an organized card night.  One of the best times with friends is a night in playing Sheepshead and gambling a few bucks to hopefully win a few more!  To add a little winter warmth and comfort, be sure to serve up some hot toddies.

• Winter White Party: Since we never see any snow here, it is fun to pretend once in awhile.  Try this colour themed party to resemble the white of snow.  Drinking white cocktails and eating white foods will only add to the fun, and the pictures will look great!

• Winter Luau: Of course, if you want to not be reminded it is winter, just forget about it and pretend it’s summer.  Fire up the grill and have an indoor Hawaiian Luau complete with Bob Marley tunes, grass skirts, and coconut drinks for guests.

• Hot Tub Party: If you have your own, great, invite some friends over to jump in the tub and soak over a few bottles of wine.  However, if you don’t, check into a local, quiet pool or resort to relax in their hot  tubs or pools.

• Famous Couples Party: There are endless options for your friends to choose from and these parties are always a crowd favourite.  You can even extend this to cartoon couples.

• Murder Mystery Party: These are perfect parties to invite friends that don’t know each other to, and have them mingle.  Each guest gets an invitation with a description of their character and how to dress to play the part.  Throughout the party, everyone plays the game to figure out who the murderer is.  These are great fun!
